HAProxy is a load balancer that helps with MySQL load balancing. MySQL connectors like Connector/J can load balance connections on a cluster of MySQL Servers. However, not all drivers provide load-balancing or have a way to know if a server is too loaded with requests . A pretty neat way to prevent overload and load balance requests is to use HAProxy. HAProxy has some great benefits like queueing and throttling of connections.
